Part l update 2019 building compliance primary energy
The upcoming Part L and Part F updates are likely to change the way new developments achieve compliance, as primary energy becomes the key metric for energy performance targets. This change could heavily impact heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) specification and building design. This is why we have created our new reports:

Primary Energy – Not the only consideration whilst designing NZEBs
By the 31st December 2020, the built environment must ensure it is only constructing Nearly Zero Energy Buildings (NZEBs) to comply with the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD).

Five Top Tips for Keeping your Hay Fever at Bay
With one in five Brits suffering from hay fever and this number growing in recent years, the symptoms often mean we spend the summer months reaching for the tissues. However, with pollen season lasting from January to November, it’s important to find ways to manage it in your home throughout the year. Karen Trewick from air treatment specialists, Dimplex, offers her top tips on keeping hay fever at bay.

Investing in People to Enhance your Business
The heating and ventilation industry has traditionally found it difficult to attract new engineering talent, but it now faces a distinct skill shortage which must be addressed.

Defining the Future of Compliance
The compliance system for new developments is set to drastically change over the next 16 months. The consultations for Approved Documents L and F, which are expected to take place towards the end of 2019, will be the only opportunity for industry to support or appeal these changes, which have a high potential to heavily impact building design, HVAC specification and the carbon-focused mindset of the industry.

Primed for Primary energy? The changing challenge of NZEBs
Before the end of 2019, government will release the final consultation paper on the proposed amendments to Part L of building regulations ‘Conservation of Fuel and Power’. In anticipation, Glen Dimplex Heating & Ventilation (GDHV) have taken the chance to analyse the proposed changes to the document and present our thoughts on the potential impacts to the HVAC industry.

Net-zero emissions by 2050: What does Net-zero mean?
From industry events, government press releases and various net-zero commitments from different cities and companies, everyone is standing up to agree that we need to be net-zero sooner than the turn of the century. But what does ‘net-zero’ actually mean?

Preparing your home heating this autumn
As the year rolls around once more it is time to welcome the autumn season and all that it will bring with it; leaves changing from shades of green to reds and browns and yellows, the migration of all kinds of birds and Halloween (and even Christmas) decorations starting to appear in the shops. As summer ends, autumn signifies the waning of the year.

Residential ventilation: Saving time on design and installation
The importance of suitable ventilation is becoming increasingly recognised, as society and the media have begun to focus on the air quality within our homes. This is because as Part L of the Building Regulations has been updated to save energy by tightening the building fabric, Part F has not been reviewed in turn. This has resulted in poor air quality as air change requirements do not go far enough to remove volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from residential spaces.
